UAE-funded factions arrest demonstrators during protests in Hadramout
HADRAMOUT, Sept. 09 (YPA) – The factions funded by the UAE in Hadramout province, eastern Yemen, launched on Monday an arrest campaign targeting a number of participants in the protest demonstration in the center of Mukalla city, the center of the province.
Human rights sources said that members of the so-called “Hadrami Elite” factions arrested a number of participants in the popular protests denouncing the interruption of electricity service for nearly 14 hours a day.
The pro-UAE factions deployed dozens of military vehicles in the streets of the city to suppress protesters supporting the demands of the Hadramout Tribes Confederacy,” which it announced early last August.
Local protests continue in most of the districts of Hadramout coast, which are under the control of the UAE-backed factions, for the second week in a row due to the collapse of electricity and the lack of diesel following the price hike imposed by the government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition last month, which resulted in the high cost of internal transportation fees.
