LONDON, Sept. 07 (YPA) – Amnesty International said that Israel illegally destroyed agricultural land and civilian buildings along the eastern border of the Gaza Strip, calling for an investigation into this destruction as part of “war crimes.”
In a statement published on Friday, the organization called for an investigation into the Israeli military operation aimed at significantly expanding the “buffer zone” along the eastern border of the occupied Gaza Strip, as they constitute two war crimes, namely “unjustified destruction and collective punishment,” according to what was reported by news agencies.
Amnesty International explained that the Israeli occupation forces illegally destroyed agricultural lands and civilian buildings and razed entire neighborhoods to the ground, with all their homes, schools, and mosques, using bulldozers and manually planted explosives.
By analyzing satellite images and videos posted by the Israeli occupation army on social media between October 2023 and May 2024, Amnesty International’s Crisis Evidence Lab identified recently vacated land along the eastern border of Gaza, which is approximately 1 to 1.8 km wide.
In some video clips, occupation army soldiers appear preparing to take photos or celebrating the destruction while buildings are demolished in the background, according to the organization’s statement.
