UAE-funded STC opens new prison in Aden

ADEN, Sept. 04 (YPA) – The Southern Transitional Council (STC) opened on Tuesday a new prison in the city of Aden, which is under the control of the Saudi-led coalition, with support and funding from the UAE.

Media outlets affiliated with the STC reported that Aden’s Security Director, Mutahar Al-Shuaibi, had opened a new criminal investigation prison, which heralds more anti-STC arrests in the coming days.

The opening of the prison comes after widespread local demonstrations in Aden last month demanding the release of those kidnapped and forcibly disappeared from STC prisons, including Lieutenant Colonel Ali Ashal Al-Jaadani since mid-June.

The move sparked a state of anger among a number of social media users, who stressed that Aden needs electricity services and improving living conditions by supporting the stability of the local currency, away from secret prisons and detention centers.

Social media activists pointed out that the opening of the new prison is a new indirect threat to the people of Aden and a provocation to families demanding the release of their sons from Aden’s notorious prisons.
