General strike targets educational process in Hadramout

HADRAMOUT, Sept. 03 (YPA) – The General strike, which was carried out by students of Hadramout University on Tuesday, had paralyzed the educational process in all the university’s faculties.

University’s student union affirmed in a statement that the strike came in protest against the increase in registration fees for the new academic year, coinciding with the increase in transportation fees by transport means.

The statement called on the universities’ students to continue the strike until the local authorities and the coalition-backed Aden government reconsider the students’ rights.

The union’s statement stated that it would continue its upcoming escalation steps, within the next two days, until all demands be achieved, at a time when oil-rich province of Hadramout is witnessing a comprehensive collapse in all basic and development services.

On Monday, the city of Mukalla witnessed angry protests due to the collapse of the electricity system in the coastal districts, as the protesters blocked the main streets with stones and burning tires.
