39 people killed due to flash floods in Dhamar

DHAMAR, Aug. 31 (YPA) -At least 39 people including women and children, were killed and went missing due to flash floods caused by heavy rainfall in the Wusab al-Safil district west of Dhammar Governorate.

According to Mohammed Ali Abdullah al-Bareed, the Human Rights Coordinator for the district, the floods that hit the Jurf area in the Bani Musa district have caused 6 fatalities and left 20 individuals missing, with a significant number being women and children.

He also reported that a woman and her two children were killed, and 10 additional individuals went missing in the al-Hasab area of the Wadi al-Khashab district.

Al-Bareed explained that the efforts to rescue the victims have been hampered by the floods, which carried them from the Wusab area across the Zabid Valley to the Tihama plain, and also swept away various vehicles and personal belongings.

He pointed out that the extensive damage to rugged and dirt roads has made it difficult for people from surrounding areas to access the affected villages.

Significant damage was also reported to roads and fruit orchards along the Rama’a and Zabid valleys, which border the district from the north and south, along with extensive damage to land and homes throughout the district.
