FM reveals new agreement with UN organizations operating in Yemen

SANAA, Aug. 20 (YPA) – The Sanaa-based government revealed on Tuesday a new agreement with the United Nations regarding the rules of work of organizations operating in Yemen.

Jamal Amer, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in the Government of Change and Construction, said in a post on X platform that a committee assigned by the ministry handed over the building of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Sanaa to Julien Harneis, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Yemen.

The minister affirmed that “the handover came after reaching an understanding with Julian regarding the rules of work of the organizations and enhancing cooperation with the United Nations and its affiliated and international organizations.”

On Monday, Jamal Amer met with Julien Harneis to discuss ways to enhance cooperation with the United Nations and international and regional organizations concerned with humanitarian and development aid for those affected by the economic blockade imposed on Yemen.

During the meeting, Minister Amer stressed “the importance of not turning the United Nations and humanitarian aid into a tool of political pressure in favor of colonial countries.”
