HODEIDA, July 26 (YPA) – Fifty-five Yemeni fishermen returned to the fishing port in Hodeida on Thursday evening, days after being kidnapped and tortured in Eritrean authorities’ prisons.
The fishermen reported that Eritrean maritime patrols had abducted them while they were fishing in Yemeni waters aboard five boats and took them to Eritrean prisons.
They stated that after enduring torture and mistreatment, the Eritrean navy returned them on only one boat and confiscated the remaining boats, fishing gear, and some personal belongings.
In a statement, the General Authority for Fisheries strongly condemned the increasing frequency of kidnappings and violations against the Yemeni fishermen, whether perpetrated by Eritrean authorities or the US-Saudi aggression coalition.
The authority called on the international community and humanitarian organizations to address the grievances of Yemeni fishermen and condemn all violations against them.
