UN official: Cost of rebuilding Gaza reaches $50 billion

GAZA, July 03 (YPA) – Director of the Regional Office for Arab States at the United Nations Development Programme, Abdullah Al-Dardari, said on Tuesday that the cost of the Gaza Strip reconstruction amounts to $50 billion.

The UN official explained that the importance of these efforts lies especially after reaching a ceasefire, as nearly two million people face a long wait for the start of reconstruction operations.

Al-Dardari pointed out that the cost of the early recovery program amounts to about two billion dollars, while the cost of the entire reconstruction of Gaza is estimated at about 50 billion dollars, according to the United Nations Information Office.

He stressed the need to find mechanisms to create a sufficient number of temporary homes that could be ready for use in Gaza as soon as the day after the ceasefire, in addition to securing basic services such as health, education, water, sanitation, and electricity.
