Strong winds hit Socotra, rains expected in several provinces

SANAA, June 27 (YPA) – The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning expected on Thursday scattered rains of varying intensity accompanied by thunderstorms, with hailstones falling occasionally, in parts of the provinces of Taiz, Ibb, Dhalea, Bayda, Dhamar, Raymah, Lahj, and Abyan highlands.

The center indicated in its weather bulletin on Thursday that the provinces of “Saada, Hajjah, Amran, Mahweet, Sanaa, Shabwa, Hadramout, Mahra, and areas of the Tihama Plain” will witness scattered rains with thunderstorms, while strong winds will blow around the Socotra archipelago, reaching a maximum speed of 40. The weather is very hot in the desert areas, where maximum temperatures range between 38 – 43 degrees Celsius, and very hot in the plains and coastal areas, with temperatures between 36 – 40.

The Center warned citizens against being in the depths of valleys and flood paths, against thunderstorms, and against sea turbulence and high waves around the Socotra Archipelago and the eastern and southern coasts.

It also warned against hot and extremely hot climates in deserts, inland plateaus, and coastal plains, and advised against direct exposure to the sun’s rays and to drink plenty of fluids.
