Dozens of Yemeni fishermen released from Eritrean jails return

HODEIDA, May 11 (YPA) – About 49 Yemeni fishermen returned on Saturday their home after being arrested by Eritrea’s authorities.

“The Eritrean authorities released the fishermen, who are belonging to Al-Khawkhah district, south of Hodeida province, had been kidnapped since the past months,” media sources said.

The released arrived late Friday evening at the fish landing center in the city of Al-Khokhah, which is under the control of the coalition forces, south of the province.

The sources indicated that the Eritrean Navy imprisoned the fishermen inside the Tarma prison on Assab Island after confiscating their boats and fishing equipment.

Dozens of Yemeni fishermen were subjected to repeated kidnappings from the Eritrean Navy under the pretext of approaching its territorial waters, with confiscating their boats and tools and without any action from the coalition-backed government or the forces affiliated with the pro-UAE leader, “Tariq Afash,” located in the coastal city of Mokha, western Yemen.
