Hamas is studying a ceasefire proposal: Haniyeh

GAZA, May 02 (YPA) – The head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, said on Thursday that the movement is studying a ceasefire proposal in a “positive spirit.”

According to what Hamas reported on its Telegram channel on Thursday, Haniyeh made a phone call with the Egyptian Minister of Intelligence, Major General Abbas Kamel, regarding negotiations to stop the Israeli occupation’s aggression against the Palestinian people, appreciating the role played by Egypt.

Haniyeh stated that the Hamas negotiating delegation would head to Egypt as soon as possible to complete the ongoing discussions, with the aim of developing an agreement that fulfills the demands of the Palestinian people and stops the aggression.

The US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, had urged Hamas to accept a truce proposal in Gaza.

Blinken stressed Washington’s opposition to the Israeli occupation’s invasion of the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

During his seventh visit to the Middle East since the start of the aggression on Gaza on October 7, Blinken expressed his insistence on reaching a truce agreement “now,” which includes the release of Israeli detainees in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners in the occupation prisons.
