UAE officer takes control over lands of Socotra’s lonely port
SOCOTRA, March 13 (YPA) – One of the Emirati officers took control of a large area of the territory of the port of Hawlaf in the occupied Yemeni Socotra archipelago east of the Gulf of Aden.
“The Emirati delegate Khalfan Al-Mazrouei took control of a large area of land for the expansion of the port of Hawlaf and settled it over the past days”, sources familiar with the island said.
The pro-UAE Governor of Socotra, Raafat Al-Thaqli, granted Al-Mazrouei those lands for the expansion of the port of Hawlaf, although they are state property, the sources added.
The sources also explained that the land is located near the port gate and the construction of a mosque near the gate is underway to limit the expansion of the island’s only port.
