UNICEF warns of imminent explosion in child deaths due to malnutrition in Gaza

GAZA, March 06 (YPA) – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) warned on Tuesday of an “imminent explosion” in child deaths due to malnutrition in the Gaza Strip.

It confirmed that the death rates in the north of the Strip are “three times higher” than those recorded in the south.

“We are seeing those deaths that we long feared,” spokesman James Elder told a UN press briefing in Geneva.  “We are seeing deaths from those (malnutrition) and we will see those continue to skyrocket.”

He explained that “malnutrition rates among children under the age of five in the north are three times higher than those in Rafah in the south.”
