EU warns Israel against launching offensive into Rafah

WORLD, Feb. 20 (YPA) – European Union countries have warned Israel against launching an offensive in Rafah city,  southern Gaza Strip.

EU foreign ministers described the attack being prepared by Israel as a catastrophe for the 1.5 million refugees displaced from various areas of the Gaza Strip.

“An attack on Rafah would be absolutely catastrophic … it would be unconscionable,” Ireland’s Foreign Minister Micheal Martin said before the meeting.

After the talks ended, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said 26 of the EU’s 27 countries had agreed to a statement warning Israel against launching any attack on Rafah.

The statement called for an “immediate humanitarian pause that would lead to a sustainable ceasefire” in the besieged Gaza Strip.
