MUNICH, Feb. 16 (YPA) – The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, confirmed on Friday that any attack on Rafah would be devastating for the 1.5 million Palestinians in the city.
In his speech at the Munich Security Conference, Guterres said that “there is no justification for Israeli collective punishment of the residents of Gaza,” warning of a humanitarian catastrophe if the Rafah area is invaded.
Guterres renewed his call for a ceasefire for humanitarian reasons, the immediate release of all prisoners, and an end to the war, which has entered its 133rd day, stressing that this is the only way to expand the scope of humanitarian relief in Gaza.
He also emphasized the need to take “decisive and irreversible steps towards achieving a two-state solution” on the basis of international law and United Nations resolutions.
