WORLD, Feb. 06 (YPA) – The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, announced that an independent committee has been established to neutrally evaluate the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) and respond to accusations targeting some of its employees.
Guterres added on Monday that this evaluation committee will be led by former French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, in collaboration with three research centers: the Raoul Wallenberg Institute in Sweden, the Chr. Michelsen Institute in Norway, and the Danish Institute for Human Rights.
Earlier, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Poverty and Human Rights expressed hope that the countries that suspended their support for UNRWA would reconsider their positions.
The UN official stated in his remarks last Tuesday that the people in Gaza need the support provided by UNRWA.
