In solidarity with Gaza, French lawmakers head to Rafah, Egypt

PARIS, Feb. 04 (YPA) – A delegation of parliamentarians from the French left-wing party has headed to Al-Arish, Egypt, and the Rafah border crossing with the Gaza Strip, in preparation for their possible visit to the south of the Strip.

For the first time since the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip on October 7,2023, dozens of French representatives visited the Rafah crossing in Egypt, with the aim of highlighting solidarity with the Palestinians and pressing for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Strip.

The delegation consists of 22 French representatives from the Parliament and the Senate, belonging to the left-wing party formations of “Proud France,” the “Greens,” and the “Communists,” in addition to independent representatives.

According to French Radio Monte Carlo, French representatives received the necessary Egyptian permits to visit the Rafah crossing on the border with the Gaza Strip in order to put pressure and call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

On Saturday, French representatives arrived in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, pointing out that they had come to Egypt to demand the necessity of an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and a declaration of support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which the occupation seeks to liquidate the refugee issue by eliminating.
