WORLD, Feb. 02 (YPA) – Syrian television reported early Saturday that several individuals were killed and many others injured due to attacks carried out by US aircraft on several sites on Syrian-Iraqi border.
According to News agencies, the US airstrikes targeted sites in Al-Mayadeen and Bou Kamal in Syria and other airstrikes targeted the headquarters of Al-Hashd Al-Shabi or Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) in the Iraqi city of Al-Qaim.
In the same context, US Central Command confirmed in a statement that airstrikes were carried out in Iraq and Syria.
“US military forces struck more than 85 targets, with numerous aircraft to include long-range bombers flown from the United States. The airstrikes employed more than 125 precision munitions,” the statement said.
President Joe Biden stated that the US strikes launched on Friday in Iraq and Syria, in retaliation to a drone attack on a US base in Jorden, which resulted in the killing of three American soldiers.
Biden said in a statement that the US military response “will continue at times and places of our choosing.”
“The United States does not seek conflict in the Middle East or anywhere else in the world. But let all those who might seek to do us harm know this: If you harm an American, we will respond,” Biden said.
Earlier, ABC News, citing a US official, reporting that the American military strikes had begun in Syria as part of the response to the attack that resulted in the killing of three soldiers at a US base in Jordan.
Earlier, US authorities had stated that American forces in Jordan were attacked by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq.
According to the Pentagon, this strike resulted in the death of three American soldiers and the injury of more than 40 others.
