Senior Islah Party leader survives assassination attempt in Taiz

TAIZ, Jan. 22 (YPA) – A senior Islah Party leader survived on Monday an assassination attempt in coalition-controlled areas of Taiz province, southern Yemen.

Local sources familier with the matter said that Mohammed al-Abd al-Jaradi, one of leaders in Aqrawdh Front, was ambushed by an explosive device, which led to injuring one of his companions.

The sources indicated that “there has those who are trying to divert attention from the elements involved in the incident by publishing accusations against other parties.”

This comes within the framework of the conflict between the Islah’s armed factions and others affiliated with the UAE, led by Tariq Afash, amid the Afash’s efforts to grain sheikhs to control the areas of Sabr Al-Misrakh, Al-Mawadim, and Cairo of Taiz, with the aim of limiting the presence of Islah members.

Several leaders of the Islah Party had frustrated the decisions of the Emirati-backed governor, Nabil Shamsan, to oust a number of pro-Islah officials who is running the areas of Al-Muzaffar, Sabr Al-Mawadim, and Haifan, and replace them with UAE-affiliated leaders, to limit Islah’s control over strategic military sites in these areas overlooking the west coast districts.
