Istanbul Mayor calls for preparations of possible earthquak

WORLD, Jan. 15  (YPA) – Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu stressed the need to prepare for a possible Istanbul earthquake, noting that the issue of the earthquake in Istanbul is a vital issue.

The mayor said in a speech on Sunday that “the painful anniversary of last year’s earthquake in the southeast of the country makes it necessary to prepare for a possible Istanbul earthquake.”

Imamoglu pointed out that the first anniversary of the February 6, 2023 earthquake is approaching, and said that “that earthquake during which thousands of people lost their lives while sleeping at night in their homes, while they were living in peace.”

“We have buried many children, women, youth and adults together. The pain is still present in that area. “Millions of Turkish people face deep problems that need to be solved.”

“The issue of the earthquake in Istanbul is a vital issue, because just like the earthquake we saw in the east and southeast, the earthquake here awaits us at the door as a major threat,” he added.
