Ansarullah in Yemen attracts global attention regarding Gaza war

SANAA, Dec. 11 (YPA) – Yemen’s Ansarullah Movement has attracted the global attention by seizing a Israel’s ship in the Red Sea and firing missiles at the Israeli occupation in support of the Palestinian people.

New York-based American political magazine, Jacobin, said in a lengthy report on Friday, prepared by researcher Helen Lackner, on Nov. 19, 2023, a number of soldiers from the Ansarullah movement, known as Houthis, in Yemen had seized a cargo ship sailing in the Red Sea because of its ownership by Israel, after warning to target ships linked to Israel or other ships dealing with it.

“Within hours, the Houthis used one of their helicopters and speedboats to hold the Galaxy Leader ship and take it to the Red Sea coast near Hodeida,” Jacobin added. “Israel left the ship to the so-called System of Ownership and International Shipping Management, in an attempt to negotiate and release the crew and the ship.”

The report explained the massacres that Israel occupation have committed since last October in Gaza, Ansarullah have been clear in their support for the Palestinians, as they launched a series of missiles and drones towards Israel, claiming that ‘some of them were intercepted by the US Navy and Israeli defenses.

It pointed out that Ansarullah “succeeded in forcing Israeli ships not to pass through the Red Sea, indicating that this is a significant additional cost for changing the course of ships, and that the political and public relations impact resulting from these attacks is much greater, both at the internal and international levels for Israel.”

“The positions regarding Palestine in the Arab and Islamic world constituted an effective test of the progressive and reactionary bias,” the magazine continued by saying. “While in Yemen, Ansarullah alone has stood with the Palestinian cause, and that the massive demonstrations that went out in Yemen in support of the Palestinians were the largest in the Sanaa-held areas.”

The report stated that one of the elements that has remained stable and constant throughout is the strong commitment of the Yemeni people to support Palestine. Peoples are shocked by the injustice suffered by the Palestinians and the double standards that the powerful countries dominating global politics showed.

In comparison, the Jacobin’s report affirmed that the coalition-backed Aden government showed some sympathy for the Palestinians, but did not do more than that. Even the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) did not have any public position in support of Palestine, and its leaders are concerned about the UAE, which may give priority to supporting other factions under its influence, referring to the factions led by “Tariq Afash.”
