WASHINGTON, Nov. 14 (YPA) – The US newspaper “The Washington Post” has reported that over 30 relief, human rights, advocacy, and religious organizations based in the United States urged US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin to stop supplying the Israeli occupation with artillery shells to prevent the worsening suffering of the Gaza Strip residents.
This came in a letter sent by the organizations, including Oxfam America, Amnesty International, and the Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC), to Austin.
The letter reflects the increasing pressure facing the United States due to its support for the ongoing Israeli campaign against Hamas in the Gaza Strip since October 7, which has caused the killing of more than 11,000 Palestinians so far.
The aforementioned organizations expressed their concerns about the Pentagon’s plan to supply Israeli forces with 155-mm rockets (artillery munitions) from the US’s own weapons stockpile.
“Under the current circumstances, granting Israel access to these munitions would undermine the protection of civilians, respect for international humanitarian law, and the credibility of the Biden administration,” the letter said.
