SHABWA, Oct. 27 (YPA) – A local official on Friday survived an assassination attempt in Shabwa province, which is under the control of Saudi-led coalition factions in eastern Yemen.
Local sources in the province confirmed that unknown gunmen opened fire on the car of Ateg Jabbour, the director of the Rawda district, east of the city of Ataq, the provincial center, and fled to an unknown destination.
According to sources, Jabbour was not hurt in the attack, amid accusing al-Qaeda elements loyal to the Islah party of carrying the attack.
The deterioration of security in Shabwa’s districts has intensified since the coalition factions took control of the governorate, following the expulsion of Islah forces from Ataq and other areas in implementation of threats made by the party’s leaders afterward.
Al-Qaeda elements deployed in a number of areas and carried out various attacks against the UAE’-backed Shabwa Defence factions with improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and drones.
