UN Secretary-General Guterres calls for immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza

SANAA, Oct. 24 (YPA) – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, on Tuesday, called for an “immediate humanitarian ceasefire” in Gaza.

At a meeting of the UN Security Council, Guterres said that we cannot lose sight of the realistic basis for peace and stability, which is the two-state solution”, pointing out that “the Palestinian people have been under a suffocating occupation for 56 years”.

He added that the people of Gaza need to provide assistance on an ongoing basis in accordance with the enormous needs, and humanitarian aid should be brought into the Gaza Strip without any restrictions.

He also said that everyone should stand up to anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.

In his speech, the UN secretary-general noted that at least 35 UN staff members were killed as a result of the shelling that targeted Gaza Strip.
