WORLD, Sept. 27 (YPA) – At least 100 people were killed and more than 150 others injured in a wedding hall fire in the town of al-Hamdaniya in Iraq’s northern province of Nineveh, the Iraqi Ministry of Health said on Wednesday.
The spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Health, Saif al-Badr, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “the Ninawa Health Department recorded 100 deaths and more than 150 injured as an initial toll sas a result of the incident of burning wedding halls in Hamdaniya.”
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani ordered the ministers of interior and health to mobilize all efforts to relief those affected by the fire, according to INA
The Iraqi Civil Defense said that the incident occurred before midnight on Tuesday in the hall building, which was made of highly flammable construction materials, INA reported.
Initial reports indicated that the fire broke out due to fireworks inside the building and that part of the building collapsed because of the huge fire, the INA said, adding that an investigation was launched into the incident.
