New Delhi raises concerns over ‘Chinese navy ‘growing presence’ in Indian Ocean

WORLD, Sept. 27 (YPA) – Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, India’s Foreign Minister has expressed his country’s concern over the “growing Chinese navy presence” in the Indian Ocean region.

Speaking at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York on Tuesday, Jaishankar said: “Over the past twenty or twenty-five years, we have been witnessing a steady and very sharp increase in the presence and activity of the Chinese Navy in the Indian Ocean.”

“New Delhi is monitoring these developments “closely” because of their potential implications for its security,” The minister said, adding, “From the Indian point of view, it makes a lot of sense for us to prepare for a much larger Chinese presence than we have seen before.”

India-China relations have gone through cycles of conflict and cooperation over nearly 75 years and said that the relationship between the two nations has not been easy.
