Armed ambush targets pro-coalition military, local officials in Taiz

TAIZ, Sept. 23 (YPA) – Military and local leaders in Taiz provinces loyal to the Saudi-led coalition were subjected to an armed ambush on Friday.

According to local sources, unidentified gunmen opened fire on the commander of the reserve battalion of the 22nd Mecha Brigade, Bakr Sadiq Sarhan, and the advisor to the former governor of Taiz, Sheikh Sultan Qaid Al-Omari, in Al-Dhabab area, west of Taiz city.

The ambush led to Al-Omari being seriously injured, while Sarhan was moderately injured, the sources added.

The sources did not indicate the identity of the parties that carried out the ambush or whether it had anything to do with the events that took place in that area after the residents’ rejection of a UAE-funded project due to the risks of it depleting groundwater in their area.
