Aden witnesses complete standstill in traffic movement due to conflict over taxes

ADEN, Sept. 11 (YPA) – Drivers of transport vehicles in the city of Aden reported a conflict that taking place inside the city to collect taxes from drivers, after officials of the Rehab checkpoint demanded that they gave bonds worth 3,000 riyals for each small or large transport vehicle.

According to the drivers, the Transport Authority in Aden denied responsibility for these permits, stressing that these bonds are not collected for the authority.

They added: “We returned to the checkpoint and told the official at that the permits must be from the transport offices in the directorates and not from the authority. The officials at the checkpoint do not recognize the authority.”

This conflict comes in light of an internal dispute between the local authorities in Aden, which are affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) the STC and the central authority loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, as the Chamber of Commerce refused to approve these permits, which provoked the discontent of drivers, and stopped working.
