Sanaa criticizes statements of Secretary of League of Arab States

SANAA, Sept. 09 (YPA) –  The Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Sanaa government, Hisham Sharaf, criticized on Saturday the statements of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, in which he accused Sanaa of obstructing peace efforts in Yemen.

Minister Sharaf said in a press statement: “The accusations made by the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, to Sanaa are baseless and prove that he, like the Arab League, is absent from the Yemeni file and the tragedy in Yemen.”

He pointed out that Sanaa has gone through peace-making understandings for more than a year and a half to reduce the escalation and is still open to a peace that is fair to the rights and sovereignty of the Yemeni people.

The Foreign Minister revealed, saying: “The Arab League has never communicated with Sanaa, and it is completely absent from the Yemeni issue and Arab issues in general. Unfortunately, the League has become a vessel that brings together the interests of only some countries.”

Sharaf noted that reforming the Arab League in a way that serves and meets the interests of the Arabs has become urgent, adding that “after the end of the war, Sanaa, as well as other Arab countries, would have a voice in this regard.”

Aboul Gheit recently accused Sanaa, or what he called the “Houthi party,” of creating obstacles to efforts to reach an agreement to end the war in Yemen during his speech at the 160th Arab ministerial meeting at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, claiming his keenness to resolve the Yemeni crisis.
