ADEN, Aug. 28 (YPA) – Saudi Arabia returned a senior leader in the Islah Party to the Maashiq Presidential Palace in Aden city, south of Yemen.
The leader in the Islah Party, Abdullah Al-Alimi, arrived in the Ma’ashiq Palace in Crater city, amid heavy Saudi security, accompanied by the Saudi-formed head of the “Leadership Council”, Rashad Al-Alimi, coming from the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
Sources familiar with the matter stated that Abdullah Al-Alimi, one of the council’s members had left Aden in protest against the coalition that handed over the city of Ataq, the center of Shabwa, to the Emirati-funded armed factions, after violent confrontations with the Islah forces in August 2022.
Abdullah Al-Alimi served as director of the office of the resigned President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi, who is residing under compulsory residence in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The sources added that al-Alimi returned to Aden at the behest of Saudi Arabia after submitting his resignation from the council last year, when the Islah militants were expelled from Ataq city.
Saudi Arabia is seeking to return the leaders of the Islah Party, which opposes the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council to Aden and the rest of the southern provinces.
