ADEN, Aug 29 (YPA) – Food prices in the southern Yemeni city of Aden have skyrocketed as the Yemeni riyal continues to collapse.
Citizens reported that they were surprised by a significant price hike of various food and basic items in the markets of Aden, especially wheat, rice and oil, at a time when some commodities disappeared from the markets in preparation for raising their prices.
Southern media described the new rise in food commodity prices as “staggering.”
Last week, the government loyal to Saudi-led coalition imposed a new price for oil derivatives in Aden, causing an increase in the prices of goods and services.
The developments come in light of massive popular protests against pro-coalition government throughout the occupied southern governorates, in conjunction with the deterioration of living and security conditions.
