Iraq: Suicide attempt of member of Al-Qurban group thwarted

WORLD, Aug 16 (YPA) – Two suicide cases have been recorded in Suq Al-Shuyukh district in Iraq’s Dhi Qar province, a security sources said on Friday.

According to Shafaq News, Dhi Qar province recorded two suicides on Friday evening, one of them did not achieve his goal while the second ended his life in the Euphrates River due to his poor health.

The source indicated that the one who failed to commit suicide by hanging himself, was a young man in his twenties suspected of belonging to a group, which was recently famous for offering sacrifices during religious events.

The group’s ideas, which call itself “Al-Qurban” in  Dhi Qar governorate, caused terror among the local community after one of its members recently committed suicide by hanging himself  with a rope inside one of the Husseiniya processions in the district.

In mid-May 2023, a source stated that this group says that they worship Imam Ali and that from time to time they draw lots among themselves, and whoever shows his name offers himself as a sacrifice to the imam.

So far, three suicide cases have been recorded, the source said.
