Military reinforcements by STC militias arrive Abyan

ABYAN, Aug 12 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council pushed military reinforcements to Mudiya district, east of Abyan province, south of Yemen.

Sources familiar with the matter said the reinforcements came after the killing of the “security belt” commander Abdul Latif al-Sayed with an explosive device last Thursday.

Local sources indicated that the STC is moving to prepare the so-called “Thunderbolt Brigade”, whose members belonging to the provinces of Dhalea and Lahj, to confront the terrorist elements in Mudiya district, a year after the announcement of the “Arms of the East” operation in Abyan, which, according to observers, left 518 dead and wounded from the pro-UAE factions, including senior leaders.

According to pro-Islah Party activists on Twitter, the STC’s military action was met with intransigence by Al-Qaeda, which sent about 200 members from areas of Al-Hatib and Al-Saeed in Shabwa province, towards Mudiya and Al-Mahfad districts of Abyan, to confront the STC militias’ campaigns.

This came after the escalation of terrorist attacks against the STC’s factions using explosive devices in Wadi Omran area of Abyan, which led to killing several senior leaders.
