SANAA, Aug. 12 (YPA) – The head of the supervisory committee for the implementation of the urgent maintenance agreement and the evaluation of the floating tank “Safer” in the Sanaa government, Zaid Al-Washli, revealed on Friday that, according to the UN announcement, the transfer of the crude oil shipment from the Safer ship to the alternative ship “Al-Yemen” had been completed.
“The committee received a message from the UN Resident Coordinator David Gresley’s office confirming the completion of the transfer of the oil shipment at six o’clock this evening, Friday,” Al-Washli said in a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba).
He congratulated everyone for reaching this advanced stage to prevent an environmental disaster, noting that the most important reason for this success is the facilitation and coordination by the Salvation Government and the national teams participating in the implementation of the rescue operation.
The head of the Safer Committee pointed out that the main reason for the success of this operation is the heroic work carried out by the naval forces in 2020, the details of which were published in the press conference held by the committee last Tuesday.
Al-Washli added, “We want to make it clear to everyone that the completion of the oil transfer does not mean the end of the process. Rather, it will remain to wash the tanks of the Safer ship, ensure that they are free of any oil materials polluting the environment, the arrival of the stabilization buoy, the examination and maintenance of the underwater pipeline, the installation of the Yemen ship with the buoy and the connection of the pipeline to it, and all that is related to the project, so that oil can be exported, and this is according to the memorandum of understanding signed with the United Nations in March 2022.”
