Dozens of drivers carry out comprehensive strike in Shabwa

SHABWA, July. 23 (YPA) – Dozens of the driver of the fuel tanker truck have carried out a general strike in protest against the levies and royalties imposed on them in Shabwa province, eastern Yemen.

Local sources indicated that the drivers went on strike at the entrance to the city of Ataq, the provincial capital of the oil-rich province, refusing to raise the improvement fees imposed by the Shabwa authorities backed by the coalition.

According to the drivers, the local authority imposed new levies under the name of “improvement fees,” without any legal justification.

Recently, the local authority in Shabwa has raised customs fees for each locomotive from 100,000 Yemeni riyals to 3,000,000 riyals, which equals $11,980.97.
