Hemedti: Sudanese officers defect and join RSF

KHARTOUM, July 23 (YPA) – The commander of Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), said that officers from the armed forces had joined his ranks

Dagalo wrote in a tweet: “We warmly welcome the honorable officers and non-commissioned officers of the 20th Division Command in East Darfur State who responded to our call for them to align themselves with the will and choices of our people.”

“We confirm that the joining of this group of honorable people represents a new impetus for us in this battle we are waging against the remnants of the former regime and the group’s leadership within the armed forces,” he said.

“It is time to open a new page in the history of our country in which we draw the future of our nation according to a comprehensive national vision that achieves freedom and justice for all of us under real democratic rule,” Dagalo added.

For his part, the spokesman for the armed forces explained that “there is an exaggeration of the number” of the military who joined the Rapid Support Forces.

“This shameful position did not and will not affect at all the cohesion and morale of members of the special division and the armed forces in general,” he said.

He added, “They are a few officers who were absorbed in previous times into the security arrangements, except for one major and 28 soldiers and non-commissioned officers, all of whom are from the region who fell to the test of military education, which unfortunately transcends narrow regional affiliations and the nationalism of the armed forces.”
