Armed confrontations leave two dead, one wounded in Shabwa

SHABWA, July 18 (YPA) – At least two citizens were killed and another wounded in gunfire in front of a police station affiliated with factions loyal to the Saudi-led coalition forces in Ataq city, the center of Shabwa province, eastern Yemen.

According to local sources in the city, one of the gunmen, believed to belong to the “Shabwa Defense” factions, opened fire on the citizens while they were in a “cafeteria” for selling juices near the headquarters of the security department in the province, leaving two dead and one wounded, on the background of a tribal revolt between the ‘Al Nasser’ and ‘Rubiz’ tribes in Al-Awaleq.

The sources confirmed that the gunmen managed to flee to an unknown destination, and no action was taken to chase them by the factions loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC).

Shabwa has been witnessing an unprecedented insecurity state and chao due to the spread of pro-coalition factions since the beginning of 2016 in several districts to fuel tribal conflicts by disbursing money and weapons to ensure the achievement of the interests of the coalition.
