UN: Replacement ship for Safer tank is still in Djibouti

NEW YORK, July 10 (YPA) – The United Nations confirmed on Monday that the process of emptying the floating oil tank “Safer” off the western coast of Yemen had stalled.

Russell Geekie, Advisor to the Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen, said in a press statement that the process of emptying the reservoir, which contains more than one million barrels of crude oil, has not yet been completed.

He did not explain the reasons for the delay in the unloading process but hinted that the replacement ship for the current tank, known as “Nautikia”, is still stuck in the port of Djibouti.

Geekie’s remarks come a day after the Sanaa government denied UN allegations that the process of emptying the reservoir had begun.

Deputy Foreign Minister Hussein Al-Ezzi said in a post on his Twitter account that the ship, which was reported by the UN to have arrived on the western coast of Yemen, has not arrived yet, and the unloading process has not been completed either.
