STC factions in Lahj kidnap Yemeni academic

LAHJ, June 23 (YPA) – A Yemeni academic returning from the Egyptian capital Cairo has been kidnapped by UAE-backed factions in Lahj governorate, southern Yemen.

Anis Alshureek, the Head of the Al-Rased Organization for Human Rights, said elements affiliated with the leader of the Southern Transitional Council’s factions, Mukhtar al-Nubi, kidnapped Sanaa University professor Ali Ahmed Lutf al-Zubairi on Thursday in the Habilain area.

“Al- Zubairi was on his way to Sanaa to spend the Eid al-Adha leave after arriving at Aden airport from the Egyptian capital Cairo,” he added in a tweet.

Alshureek condemned the kidnapping of academic Al-Zubairi, calling on STC members to release him and allow him to return to his family in Sanaa.
