Former director of ‘Safer’ reveals shocking results on condition of alternative tanker

SANAA, June 21 (YPA) -The technical inspection of the oil tanker, “FSO Safer oil,” showed that its current condition is better than the alternative vessel purchased by the United Nations to transport crude oil to it.

The former director of “Safer” Engineer Ahmed Kulaib said in a tweet on Twitter: “We have said and continue to say that the radical solution to the problem of the floating port Safer is to unload crude oil from its tanks to another tanker and leave the region.”

He added: “In confirmation of what we have said repeatedly, the result of the examination of the technical team of (Smit) accompanying the United Nations team is as follows: the thickness of the iron is still within the safety rate. It is stronger than modern ships.”

He explained that “the percentage of oxygen in tanks loaded with oil is 2%, which is a wonderful and very safe rate, as the safety rate is that the oxygen does not exceed 8%.”

Kulaib pointed out that “there are some water tanks with an oxygen content of up to 12%, but the risk is limited,” stressing that “the team pumped inert gas into them.”
He reiterated that the solution insisted on by the United Nations is expensive, while other less expensive solutions do not have UN approval.

“I do not want to underestimate anyone’s efforts, but if mediation was only done to introduce technical teams to measure the thickness and oxygen percentage as it was in the past, it would be enough, especially since the proposed (expensive) solution is to buy time only,” he further explained.

He concluded by praising the ability of the Yemeni cadres, saying: “I want to say with pride that these results are conclusive evidence of the efficiency of the maritime administration and the Yemeni crew that manages and operates the floating oil tanker Safer with a high degree of professionalism.”
