MAHRA, May 07 (YPA) – Piles of dead fish have washed up on a beach in Mahra governorate, eastern Yemen, as overfishing by unlicensed foreign companies escalated.
This was reported by Yemen News Portal, based on testimonies of local sources.
According to the sources, fishermen were surprised by thousands of dead fish on the coast of Mahifeef region. They attributed the reasons to the use of foreign ships for irregular fishing operations and the destruction of the marine environment.
Fishermen pointed out that there are dozens of foreign ships that fish in Yemeni territorial waters, and export them to the UAE.
They called for an end to overfishing, plundering of fisheries and the destruction of the marine environment.
