Biden announces military operation to evacuate US embassy staff in Sudan

WASHINGTON, April 23 (YPA) – US President Joe Biden announced On Sunday the evacuation of US embassy staff from the Sudanese capital, while the Rapid Support Forces confirmed that they had “coordinated” with the United States to evacuate their embassy in Khartoum.

The US President thanked Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Saudi Arabia for their “decisive efforts” in the successful evacuation of US diplomats, calling on both sides of the conflict in Sudan for an unconditional ceasefire and an end to violence.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that his country has taken measures to evacuate the US embassy in Khartoum and stop its operations due to security risks, stressing the evacuation of all US employees and their families from the embassy.

The Rapid Support Forces said early Sunday that they had “coordinated” with US forces to evacuate diplomats and their families from the US embassy in Khartoum.

This comes as the battles between the army led by Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Daglo entered their second week, and the declared temporary truce failed to be implemented.
