ACU condemns decision of coalition-backed gov’t to stop export of fruits

SANAA, April 18 (YPA) – Yemen’s Agricultural Cooperatives Union (YACU) and its associations condemned on Tuesday the decision of the coalition-backed government to stop the export of fruits and vegetables abroad during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Union said in a statement this random and ill-considered decisions would cause harm to farmers, exporters and the national economy.

The statement warned of the negative effects on farmers, especially Yemeni exporters have concluded supply contracts for these products with importing merchants in the targeted countries, with specific quantities and periods per week.

It considered the suddenly decision as a violation of the agreement of Yemeni exporters and importers, in addition to causing the accumulation of shipments of fruits and vegetables prepared in advance for export at both the Shehen and Al-Wadiah across outlets.
