Military commander affiliated with Islah imposes unfair taxes on shops in Taiz

TAIZ, April 09 (YPA) – Islah Party gunmen loyal to Saudi-led  coalition imposed unfair financial levies on shop owners in Al-Hujariya areas of Taiz governorate.

A local source told the Yemeni Press Agency: “The commander of the 35th Armored Brigade, Abdul Rahman Al-Shamsani, directed to collect sums of money from the owners of shops in the market of the Al-Ain area, the center of Al-Mawasit District, amounting to about one million riyals.”

The sources added that the directives of the brigade’s leadership came to impose levies under the pretext of supporting the military side, as he described.

According to the sources, most of the shop owners refused to pay the amounts to the leadership of the brigade, amid unprecedented widespread local anger and discontent, due to the levies imposed on merchants under several names.

The sources pointed out that some traders paid the amounts for fear of thugs of coalition gunmen in the area.
