InterAction warns of lack of sufficient funding to Yemen

ROME, March 30 (YPA) – The “InterAction” organization has warned that the donors’ failure to provide sufficient funding to meet the growing needs in Yemen would have repercussions on the millions of affected people.

The organization, which is part of the largest coalition of non-international organizations and is headquartered in Rome, said the lack of funding threatens to keep the growing humanitarian needs of Yemenis.

It added in a statement that the high cost of food, the deterioration of the economy, and poor health care services, have made millions of Yemenis facing extreme hunger, and increased the risks of contracting measles, cholera, and other infectious diseases.

The statement indicated that the humanitarian response plan for this year has received only 10 percent of the funding so far.

During its organization of the donors’ conference on March 16, 2023, the United Nations announced it needed 4.3 billion dollars to assist 17 million Yemenis during the current year.

Earlier, Oxfam International had called on the international community to implement an urgent economic rescue package to save the deteriorating situation in Yemen, warning of the danger of catastrophic hunger in one of the most dangerous humanitarian crises in the world.
