Awqaf: The aggression targeted 1264 mosques and 50 shrines during eight years

SANAA, March 30 (YPA) – The General Authority of Awqaf in Sanaa government revealed the extent of the destruction of religious institutions, especially mosques, monuments and shrines, which were targeted by the US-Saudi aggression during eight years, amounted to $6 billion.

During a press conference held on Wednesday, the Authority’s Undersecretary for the Mosques Dr. Abdullah Al-Qudami, stressed the importance of informing the public about the extent of the damages and losses due to the US-Saudi aggression.

He confirmed that the number of mosques targeted by the US-Saudi aggression in 19 governorates amounted to 1,264 mosques, in addition to 50 shrines in seven governorates.

The official explained that Saada governorate topped the governorates in terms of the number of targeted mosques, which amounted to 303 mosques, followed by Amanat Al-Asimah with 230 mosques, Taiz governorate with 112 mosques, Hodeida 88 mosques, Dhamar 80 mosques, Hajjah governorate with 78 mosques, and Ibb with 76 mosques.

The aggression destroyed 23 shrines and shrines in Taiz province, 13 in Hadramawt province, 5 in Lahj province and 4 in Hodeida province, he said.

He stated that the blockade and the difficult economic conditions, due US-Saudi aggression affected all segments of society.
