WORLD, March 12 (YPA) -Police in the Hague arrested about 700 environmental activists on Saturday after they blocked the A12 motorway, Dutch broadcaster NOS reported.
On Saturday, climate advocates from the Extinction Rebellion held protest against government subsidies for mining, blocking one of The Hague’s main highways – the A12 motorway. Police were later reported to have used water cannons to disperse protesters.
According to NOS, Dutch police, after repeated calls for protesters to disperse, began dispersing activists to clear the deadlock.
Some protesters responded to the police call, but many remained camped out on the highway, prompting police to detain around 700 activists.
The arrested protesters were taken to the police station.
