WORLD, March 12 (YPA) – A new powerful storm hit California overnight, killing at least two people and forcing thousands from their homes in coastal Monterey County.
“We were hoping to avoid and prevent this situation, but the worst-case scenario has arrived with the Pajaro River overtopping and levee breaching at about midnight, Chair of the Monterey County Board of Supervisors said in a tweet.
Residents confirmed to AFP that local fire officials had asked them in the middle of the night to evacuate their homes.
The National Weather Service said the area remained under a flood warning on Saturday afternoon.
