ABYAN, March 10 (YPA) – Hundreds of people from Abyan governorate, southern Yemen, took to the streets for the second day in a row in angry popular demonstrations against the continued deterioration of the security situation.
The demonstrators denounced the continued increase of organized crime rates in the city, the latest of which was the murder of the child Mithaq Obeid Al-Dabiya.
They demanded justice for the killing of Mithaq and for all victims of crimes committed previously by the perpetrators.
Protesters accused the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s security services of colluding with criminals and armed gangs deployed in the city.
The demonstrators threatened to escalate against the STC militias, to close all institutions belonging to pro-coalition government , if the UAE-backed militias continue their complicity with armed gangs.
Abyan governorate has been witnessing a large security chaos and a wide spread of uncontrolled armed gangs supported by the STC’s security services, which has caused a remarkable increase in crime rates in the province during the past period.
