German Chancellor: conflict in Ukraine could last for a long time

WORLD, March 08 (YPA) – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the conflict in Ukraine could last for a long time.

Speaking at a meeting with citizens in the eastern German city of Cottbus on Tuesday, he said: “We have to fear that this will take longer, although of course every day we wish it was different.”

He expressed his conviction that a permanent system for the manufacture of weapons and ammunition should be adopted.

It is worth noting that many media reports have recently talked about European countries’ fears that their stocks of weapons and ammunition will run out due to their military support for Ukraine.

European military industries, including Germany, plan to increase the amount of ammunition they produce in order to continue supporting Ukraine, which has requested about 250,000 artillery shells a month, as well as to maintain the required stockpiles of European militaries.

Earlier, Scholz’s government announced an unprecedented plan to re-equip and develop the army, estimated at 100 billion euros, against the backdrop of the conflict in Ukraine and fears of the alleged “Russian danger”.
